Comic Book / Picture Book Workshop
In picture books and comics, every child designs their own universe. The stories we design feature characters, a flow of events, and a memory transfer. Expressing the story and emotion through drawing is a design process. The point of view (camera), who the characters are, how they stand, what kind of setting is it? After writing the story, we define the characters and setting(s) in our sketchbook. Images are created alongside the text. We then copy and paste the text and illustrations for our picture book or comics onto the provided template or our own page layout, then color, glue, and bind if necessary.
Hi Journey Art and Design Studio raises awareness about creative thinking and a designer perspective with its inclusive approach and its content that diversifies every season, while contributing to the development of story visualization, painting (illustration) and graphic design skills of children and adults.
During the 2025-2026 season, we are offering regular in-person and online picture book, comic book, and illustration workshops for children. These workshops cover the fundamentals of drawing, stylization (painting), creative idea development, story writing, drawing, painting, and page design (picture book and comic book). Workshops for adults focusing on design thinking and story visualization will be announced starting in September.
Workshops
Hi Journey's main studio in Karşıyaka, Izmir, offers comics/picture book and drawing (illustration) workshops for ages 6-7 and 8-12. Children participate in workshops that span a period of comics/picture book and drawing (illustration), depending on their interests. These workshops are two hours in person and one hour online. They experience a safe and enjoyable experience with content that is a more playful adaptation of the basic design and drawing courses offered by design sections in applied arts.

Painting (Illustration) Workshop
This workshop, which will be held in the 2025-2026 season and is aimed at 8-12 year-olds as well as 6-7 year-olds, teaches children who have learned to read and write, are interested in drawing, and have visual skills, how to simplify drawing of human and animal figures, the foundations of the illustration industry, use of color, and various compositional techniques (symmetrical and asymmetrical balance, rhythm, hierarchy, etc.). While painting, children also acquire principles such as focus and step-by-step progress.
Regular graphic novel, creative thinking, and Zen workshops for adults are planned for the 2025-2026 season. Additionally, political collage and special occasion events will be organized by artist Hande Zerkin.
